richies in luxie

luxembourg city is like a little paris. very comely city.

there was a lot of money there. maserti, bentley, mercedes--were the cars of choice.
they really knew how to do the christmas market though
at first glance these look like fancy sweet treats, but alas, they are not.

yes, those are live turtles in that window display of mens' fancy clothes.
luxembourg city has a winding river running through it with a big fortess and city wall built atop sheer cliffs above the river valley. this is one of the geographically advantages of the area that has kept the city free from invasion/conquerers/robbers/thieveries.

chocolate flows like water in luxembourg city. (see royal palace in reflection--yes they still have royalty)
token wynn pic.

outside the city is a us cemetary with 5,000 graves of WWII soldiers--many of whom died to liberate luxembourg from the third reich. among them is general george s. patton, jr. who is famous for saying many things, among them:
"Some damn fool once said that flanks have got to be secure. Since then sonofabitches all over the globe have been guarding their flanks. I don't agree with that. My flanks are something for the enemy to worry about, not me. Before he finds out where my flanks are, I'll be cutting the bastard's throat."
"I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country."
"The more I see of Arabs the less I think of them. By having studied them a good deal I have found out the trouble. They are the mixture of all the bad races on earth, and they get worse from west to east, because the eastern ones have had more crosses."

not a hero of mine, nor a very reputable leader, but he seemed to be effective in his soldiering, and hopefully helped end the war/bloodshed sooner.
