Fight H1N1

Family whom I love... aside from coughing into your elbow, washing your hands, keeping Purell in your car and purse, and avoiding sick people when possible here are a few more tips. James, I would be interested in your thoughts on all this. I think it is better to prevent. Just thinking of you all.

Additional Steps In Fighting The Flu

We hear over and over to wash hands, use Purell, and get vaccinated, etc. But there are several other things we can do to prevent and/or recover more quickly from the Flu.

1. Vitamin C& D--High doses of Vitamin C have been shown to support the immune system. If taking Vitamin C supplements, make sure there is zinc to increase absorption. Vitamin D has been shown to strengthen the lungs and help prevent lung infections, among other benefits. Our bodies makes Vitamin D naturally with exposure to sunlight, and you can get supplements. 2. Salt Water--gargling with salt water and swabing salt water on the inside of you nose can kill the virus at the primary points of entry to your body. More Info Another salt water technique is nasal irrigation to keep the sinuses open and free of infection causing bacteria. To aid in nasal irrigation, Neti Pots have recently become quite popular.

3. Eat Healthier--Eating more fruits and vegetables (especially those high in Vitamin C), and reducing sugar, processed flour, and meat will strengthen your Immune System.

4. Herbs, Oils, etc.--Many people are turning to natural medicines like herbs and essential oils. doTERRA has a lot of information about essential oils.

i'm learning more and more that the absolute best preventive medicine is eating healthy (vegetables and fruits making up the bulk of the diet), exercising regularly (five days a wk), getting enough sleep, and reducing stress in our life (which may mean doing things for ourselves at times). eating right will mean you won't need the expensive vitamins (sorry nu skin). exercising outside means you don't need vit D supplements (sun is free). sleeping/reducing stress will keep your immune system in tip top shape. those are the secrets to life. (washing hands regularly also helps.)

but my real thoughts are this: Why does H1N1 call for a Presidential designation as a national emergency while the preventable deaths of 45,000 Americans every year (122 every day) is not?

Maybe because it is "new" and it freaks everyone out when a new strain or disease breaks out because we fear the unknown. Give it some time and it will join the ranks of the common cold or the regular old flu.
