A new, perhaps controversial, form of artwork...behold the beautiful human body!
Some people show off paintings, or sculpture, or ceramics. Perhaps you have seen or heard of the Bodies exhibit that is touring around the US. Anyway, I thought I should show off my latest form of artwork. It is tough work dissecting. This was my end of the semester masterpiece. It was a fun yet challenging project that took about seven hours. We used a bone saw to remove the skull and then carefully removed the left side of the brain carefully leaving all of the cranial nerves attached to the head through their different foramina (holes in the skull). The students are required to learn all of the cranial nerves and so this dissection was special because it is a way that they can learn them in a whole new perspective. On top of that, we decided to remove the bottom of the skull and show the eye socket. If you look at the middle image, we have opened up the eye cavity to show the muscles, and nerves that are attached to the eyeball and facilitate its movement. The beauty of the human body!
